A Laughing Spirit
Sometimes it’s all too easy to get caught up in the “seriousness” of b u s i n e s s –
If that ever happens to you, it’s valuable to remind yourself that it is all just a game… this can restore lightness to your spirit and improve your outlook. It’s in this spirit that today I’m going to go off on a bit of a different tangent regarding marketing your home business.
When you catch yourself feeling stressed out and starting to take things too seriously… time pressures, money pressures, disappointment or frustration resulting from people failing to follow through on their agreements… Why not take a breath and a moment to look at what is really going on.
Stop yourself in your tracks and take a few moments to review the ’story’ you were just telling yourself.
Now I invite you to imagine that story is not about you… instead it’s a story you’re writing. Of course, you know the main character quite intimately yet you still may be surprised to discover that with a willingness to play with this exercise you can rewrite the story by consulting with this character to discover a different perspective.
In other words… if you were listening to this person and they were asking for your advice, what would your counsel be? What would you advise? Make a suggestion and listen to that first response that pops into your head as though the character in the story had just answered you. (He/She really has 
) If that voice is one of agitation spend a moment soothing your character and then dive into discovering what might be discovered by taking a different perspective.
You can approach that in a variety of ways. One of my favorites is to pretend that the story I’ve been telling myself (about all the ’should’ do’s and have to’s and can’t do’s) is actually a novel I’m writing… so I have the full power to make anything happen. This is when it’s time to do some very creative… even outrageous brainstorming and daydreaming about WHAT HAPPENS NEXT and WHERE IT WILL LEAD TO…
Usually by the time I get to that point of my ‘Lighten Up’ break I’m at least smiling… often due to the crazy Super Heroine that flys in to save the day… but hey… I figure there really was power in the Super Heroine or Super Hero because their appearance really has… CHANGED MY DAY!
So for today let me say, the BEST thing for your home marketing business can often be YOU learning to lighten up!
