What’s Marketing?

With the use of the Internet, home business marketing has become a whole new world… and FAR easier than it ever was before!

Seems the first order of business on a brand new blog about marketing your home business would be to help people make the distinction between SALES… and MARKETING. They’re definitely ‘kissin cousins’ and often lead to confusion. While I don’t necessarily feel it’s critical to your success to be able to distinguish between them, I do find that clarity helps me focus with cleaner energy, giving me far more satisfying results. It just might be the case with you, too. ;-)

A good rule of thumb might be:

Marketing -  a process of attracting and getting into relationship with potential clients/customers

Sales – the actual exchange of goods/services for cash (or it’s equivalent)

Here’s a warning… when you’re building a business from home, these can feel especially interwoven because as a rule… YOU are both the marketing and the sales ‘department’ all wrapped into one. Just want you to be aware it’s the same with me. So while it’s my intention to place the primary focus on MARKETING your home business, I’ll undoubtedly slide into some ‘sales talk’ from time to time.

When you think about it, we actually have an advantage in that we seamlessly integrate our sales and marketing if we’re doing things right! And by doing things right I mean being clear and aware.

That said, the thing you want to keep ‘top of mind’ is communication. A big key in any successful business (life in general, for that matter). In the case of a home business, the primary communication is going to be between you and the end user as well as all the potential users of your product or service. It’s my plan to have this blog be a place where we can explore the best ways to find and get into relationship with more people as well as effectively keep the lines of communication open with your current customers and/or clients.

OF course the communication between you and your ‘boss’ will also have to be touched on from time to time. Don’t think I’m kidding… one thing I’ve noticed in many who are building a business from home is that those who consistently take the time to get all of their ‘selves’ into alignment with one another are absolutely the most successful!

Play well,

~Mary K
